Annual General Meeting
we have a new problem with Covid restrictions, the Annual General
Meeting of the club will be held at the club on the 23 July, and all
members eligible to vote are invited to attend. To allow for votes from
both sessions to attend, it will be held at 8PM, after the first session
and before the second. Recent experience is that we can continue with
normal fencing about half an hour later.
The meeting will be held outdoors if the weather permits. Please
consider bringing a face-covering in case it's needed for moving about
business of the AGM includes the election of the new committee, who are
responsible for the day-to-day running of the club. Paid-up members
over 14 vote in person; a parent of each member under 14 may also attend
and vote. Other people may attend and speak, at the discretion of the
chair of the meeting, but they are not entitled to vote. This year, the
committee consider that someone is a "paid-up member" if either:
have fenced at the club at least once in 2021 and have paid the fees
due for the sessions they attended - this includes juniors and
- they were paid-up on an annual or termly basis when the club was suspended in March 2020.
we have only been able to fence for 8 weeks, I am very grateful that we
have been able to fence at all. Please do attend the AGM, to
contribute to the quorum and to show your support.
also consider standing as a committee member, to help run the club next
year - it is not hard work and the club cannot run without it!
Booking now open
Booking sheets are available here for next Friday, 23 July, which will be the last night of fencing this term.
Under the rules for "organised sport" we are able to fence indoors, with
pretty much the traditional format. Guidelines for reducing Covid risk are set out in this page: covid.php. These include a couple of things to do in advance:
- British Fencing has ruled that everyone needs to be a member in
order to count as "organised sport": the introductory membership is
free for 90 days. You can get details at https://www.britishfencing.com/. Note that fencers at Guildford will normally be
in the South-East region.
- You need to book for each session, as there is a limit on capacity
and also so we can notify you if we have to cancel. You need 48 hours
to set up an account the first time, then it's easy - see covid.php.
